Borngrebe walk-off homer helps WSC rally from 5-0 down to beat Northwood (Mich.) 6-5

            Redshirt sophomore Kennadi Borngrebe belted a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Wayne State erase a 5-0 deficit and give the Wildcats a thrilling 6-5 victory over Northwood (Mich.) Wednesday morning at the Spring Softball Games in Bartow, Florida.  WSC moves to 19-4 with the win while Northwood falls to 5-10.
            The Timberwolves struck for five runs on four hits plus a walk and hit batter in the third inning to grab a 5-0 lead on the Wildcats.
            WSC started chipping into the deficit by scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the third to make the sore 5-2.  Jordyn Klein singled to center field and scored on an RBI groundout from Emilee Marth for the first run.  Leah Chance singled to right field and later scored when Maddie Scobee reached on a Nothwood error for the second run.
            The Wildcats came up with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a one-run game at 5-4.  Chance singled to center field and scored on a Marth double to left field with Marth later scoring on a single to left field by Taylor Coleman.
            The score remained 5-4 in favor of Northwood until the bottom of the seventh.  Coleman reached base on a one-out single to center field with Borngrebe belting a 2-0 pitch over the center field fence for a walk-off 6-5 win for the Wildcats.
            It was Borngrebe's second walk-off hit of the season after delivering a game-winning single in the 10th inning to beat Emporia State 2-1 on February 21st.
            Wayne State held an 11-6 advantage in hits on Northwood.  Chance finished 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored.  Marth went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI while Coleman was 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.  Borngrebe had her walk-off two-run homer for the other extra base hit for the 'Cats.
            Coleman, the third of three Wayne State pitchers, picked up the win in the circle improving to 5-1 on the season.  She worked the final inning and fanned three batters while allowing one hit.  Borngrebe started the game and pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.  Junior reliever Jadeyn Stahr fired 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to help the 'Cats rally, allowing just one hit with one strikeout.
            Wayne State plays Point Park (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon to close out play on their Florida spring break trip.
