Game Recap: Softball |

WSC blanks Dominican (NY) 8-0

Junior Taylor Coleman fired a one-hit shutout, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning, as the Wildcats improved to 14-2 with an 8-0 five-inning win over Dominican University of New York Friday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games in Bartow, Florida.  With the loss, Dominican drops to 0-9 on the season.
WSC set the pace early in the game scoring four runs in the top of the first.  Reagan Dreibelbis laced a three-run double to left field scoring Emilee Marth (single), Maddie Scobee (single) and Coleman (walked).  Lillie Timm then followed with an RBI single to shortstop scoring Dreibelbis.
The score remained 4-0 until the fifth when the 'Cats added four more runs.  Scobee had a two-run single that brought home Masyn Bunnell (single) and Payton Kincaid (single).  Timm singled to left field bringing home Marth (hit by pitch) with Scobee crossing home plate on a wild pitch for the eighth and final run.
While the 'Cats were scoring plenty of runs, starting pitcher Taylor Coleman was shutting down the Chargers holding the New York school without a hit after four innings.  Dominican opened the fifth with an infield single for their lone hit of the contest.
Wayne State had nine hits in the win, led by Dreibelbis going 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI.  Scobee was 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored while Timm was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI.
Coleman improved to 3-1 on the season with the complete-game win and shutout, her first of the season.  She allowed one hit and three walks while striking out six.
Wayne State plays two more games Saturday in Florida, facing Lynn (Fla.) at 12:30 p.m. and Queens College (NY) at 2:45 p.m.
