The Lynn University Fighting Knights held Wayne State to just three hits in handing the Wildcat softball team a 2-0 loss Saturday afternoon at the National Training Center Spring Games in Bartow, Florida. Lynn is now 3-9 on the season with the win while WSC slips to 14-3.
Wayne State left eight runners on base in the contest, including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the first without scoring along with two runners on in the fifth.
In the bottom of the first, the 'Cats had a
Leah Chance walk,
Emilee Marth single and
Maddie Scobee reached on an error with just one out to load the bases. But a pair of popups ended the inning without a run scored.
The 'Cats put two runners on in the fifth on a
Jordyn Klein single and walk to Marth but WSC could not get another runner on board and failed to score.
The only other hit in the contest for WSC was a leadoff single from
Haylee Weber in the second inning.
Lynn scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to hold up for the 2-0 win over WSC.
Wayne State had three hits in the game to just two for the Fighting Knights.
Sophomore starter
Kennadi Borngrebe (6-2) suffered the pitching loss, allowing just two hits and two runs (one earned) with six strikeouts and one walk.
Wayne State was scheduled to play Queens College of New York Saturday afternoon to continue play on their Florida spring break trip.
