Wayne State sophomore third baseman
Maddie Scobee went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI's to lead the Wildcat softball team in a 12-2 win over Queens College of New York Saturday afternoon in Bartow, Florida. The 'Cats move to 15-3 on the season with the win while the Knights are 0-2 to start the year.
WSC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as
Leah Chance and
Jordyn Klein opened the contest with singles. Each player scored respectively when Scobee and
Taylor Coleman each drove in runs while reaching base on Queens errrors.
The 'Cats grabbed a 4-0 lead in the top of the third scoring twice as Scobee singled and scored on a
Lillie Timm single to left field while
Jordan Brustuen drew a bases-loaded walk that brought home Weber.
After the Knights got on the board with one run in the bottom of the third, WSC came up with four runs in the fourth to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Weber had an RBI single to score
Emilee Marth (hit by pitch) with the first run of the inning. Scobee singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Reagan Dreibelbis for the second run. Timm's second RBI single of the game drove home Weber while Timm scored the final run when
Leah Chance reached on a Queens error.
Queens added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 8-2.
WSC posted four runs in the top of the seventh to close the Wildcat scoring.
Masyn Bunnell singled and later scored on an error for the first run.
Taylor Coleman reached on an error and scored on a passed ball for the second run while Dreibelbis belted a two-run homer to left field for the final two runs scoring
Taylor Fritz, who singled.
The Wildcats finished the contest with 15 hits, led by Scobee's 3-4 game with two runs scored. Timm was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and two RBI while Brustuen ended 2 for 3 with a double and RBI. Klein also had a pair of singles in four at-bats while Dreibelbis homered and had three RBI.
Starting pitcher
Jadeyn Stahr moved to 5-0 on the season with the pitching win, working 3 2/3 innings. She allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Taylor Coleman worked the final 3 1/3 innings and did not allow a run giving up just two hits with nine strikeouts.
The Wildcats play two more games again Sunday in Bartow, Florida on their annual spring break trip facing Edinboro (Pa.) at 9 a.m. and Ashland (Ohio) at 11:45 a.m.
