Wayne State scored all three runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally for a 3-2 non-conference college baseball win Sunday morning over St. Anselm College of New Hampshire at the Cary Invitational in North Carolina. It was the second one-run decision for the "Cats over St. Anselm on the trip, giving WSC a 9-9 record while the Hawks drop to 2-6.
St. Anselm scored single runs in the third and sixth innings to take a 2-0 lead into the ninth.
Meanwhile, WSC was limited to just a pair of singles over the first eight innings of the contest.
Nate Cunningham had a two-out single in the second. St. Anselm starting pitcher Nolan Mederos then retired 11 straight Wildcats until
Braden Cannon drew a walk with one out in the sixth.
The only other WSC hit in the first eight innings was a one-out, seventh inning single by
Paul Schuyler.
In the ninth,
Cam Madsen led off getting hit by a pitch.
Max Heard then singled putting runners at the corners.
Gabe Monosmith reached on a fielding error at third, allowing Madsen to score and making it a 2-1 game. Schuyler then delivered a two-run RBI single to left field scoring Heard and pinch-runner
Noah Strizek putting the 'Cats in front 3-2.

Jace Coleman then shut down the Knights in the ninth to preserve the 3-2 Wildcat win.
St. Anselm held a 6-4 edge in hits over WSC. Schuyler went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and two RBI. Cunningham and Heard also had hits for the Wildcats.
Starting pitcher Matthias Tronsdon worked six innings, allowing just five this and two runs (both unearned) with one strikeout and two walks. Coleman fired the final three innings of scoreless relief, giving up just one hit with six strikeouts and no walks, to pick up the win moving to 1-0 on the season.
Wayne State played another game Sunday afternoon vs. Dominican University of New York to close out play at the Cary Invitational in North Carolina.
