#28 Minnesota State posted a Northern Sun Conference baseball sweep over Wayne State Wednesday afternoon at Bowyer Field in Mankato, Minnesota by scores of 12-5 and 2-0. The host Mavericks, leaders of the NSIC, improve to 23-7 and 16-2 in the league while WSC slips to 20-15 and 12-10 in NSIC contests.
The opener saw MSU post a 10-run fourth-inning to take control of the contest in a 12-5 victory.
WSC scored single runs in the first and second innings to start the game and held a 2-1 lead until the big fourth inning by the host Mavericks.
Gabe Monosmith had an RBI single to center field in the first scoring
Max Heard (single) while senior catcher
Casey Prychak connected for a one-out, solo homer to left field in the second for the 2-1 WSC advantage.
The 'Cats added three runs in the sixth on a
Paul Schuyler three-run homer, bringing home
Cam Madsen (single) and Monosmith (hit by pitch).
Minnesota State finished the game with an 11-6 edge in hits on WSC. Schuyler had a three-run homer with Prychak adding a solo shot.
Easton Mains doubled for the other extra base hit as six different Wildcats had hits.

Clement Febus (0-2) suffered the pitching loss in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Gil Schroeder also saw action from the Wildcat bullpen.
The second game saw a combined seven hits between the two clubs in a pitcher's duel between Wayne State's
Kyler Hanson and Minnesota State's Mack Crowley. The game was scoreless until the eighth inning when the Mavericks came up with two runs to complete the sweep with a 2-0 win.
WSC had four hits in the game to just three by the Mavericks.
The 'Cats only had two runners reach second base the entire game. Prychak had a one-out double down the right field line in the fifth and
Braden Cannon laced a two-out double to left field in the seventh. The only other hits for WSC were a bunt single from Cannon in the second and a leadoff single by Madsen in the sixth.
Minnesota State had just three hits in the game and scored their two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a single and three walks with runs scoring on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch.
Junior starter
Kyler Hanson (1-2) was the hard luck loser in the contest, firing seven strong innings allowing just three hits and two runs with four walks and two strikeouts.
Kadyn Van Hill and
Jace Coleman also saw action on the mound.
Wayne State returns home this weekend for a three-game NSIC series vs. the University of Mary with a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. followed by a nine-inning contest Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
