Six different players scored goals for Wayne State College Friday afternoon as the Wildcats recorded a 6-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over Morningside University at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Mustangs drop to 0-2 while WSC is off to a 1-0 start.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the 15
th minute when freshman Emma Wasileski scored to give WSC the early lead.
Six minutes later senior
Tyler Donaldson found the back of the net at the 21-minute mark for a 2-0 advantage.
Morningside got on the scoreboard at the 25:26 mark when Fenna Van Mill scored cutting the Wayne State lead to 2-1.
The 'Cats added two more goals within a span of less than two minutes to take a comfortable 4-1 lead at intermission as
Briella Thompsen scored with an assist from Wasilewski at the 30:27 mark followed by a goal from junior forward
Morgan Mancuso assisted by
Eryn Skoruppa at the 32:04 mark.
WSC added two goals in the second half as freshman
Alyssa LaPointe scored thanks to a pass from
Olivia Thompson in the 63
rd minute and Skoruppa closed the scoring on a goal at the 86:22 mark making the final score 6-1.
Morningside held a 14-11 edge in shots over WSC while the 'Cats had a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Mustangs also had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks while WSC was called for 10 fouls to five on Morningside.
Skoruppa and Wasilewski each had a goal and assist to lead Wayne State's balanced attack. Donaldson, Mancuso, Thompsen and LaPointe also recorded goals.
Junior
Alexa Hofstetter played all 90 minutes in goal and had six saves with one goal allowed.
Wayne State is on the road next Wednesday, September 2
nd visiting Missouri Western in a 5 p.m. contest.
