Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Missouri Western scores 2-0 win over Wildcats

            Missouri Western used early goals in each half to blank Wayne State 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer played late Wednesday afternoon at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri.  The host Griffins move to 2-0-1 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 1-1.
            Host Missouri Western struck first in the seventh minute on a goal by Cadence Dobberstein to put the Griffins in front 1-0.
            WSC got both shots and its lone shot on goal in the first half as Olivia Thompson had a shot that was wide left in the 15th minute while Briella Thompsen posted Wayne State's lone shot on goal at the 40:42 mark of the opening half that was denied by the Griffins. 
            Missouri Western added an insurance goal in the first two minutes of the second half as Phoebe Brizic found the back of the net just 1:39 into the second half putting the Griffins ahead 2-0.  The hosts held WSC without a shot in the second half and closed with a 2-0 non-conference win.
            The host Griffins held an 11-2 edge in shots and 6-1 in shots on goal over the Wildcats.  WSC had one more corner kick than Missouri Western 3-2 while the Griffins were called for one more foul, 7-6, than the Wildcats.
            Junior goalkeeper Alexa Hofstetter played all 90 minutes in goal and allowed two goals with three saves. 
            Wayne State will be at home Friday afternoon hosting in-state rival Nebraska-Kearney in a non-conference contest starting at 4 p.m. at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
