#9 Wayne State held Bloomsburg (Pa.) to a -.108 hitting percentage by forcing 19 attack errors as the Wildcats closed their season-opening trip to New York with a 25-7, 25-12, 25-7 win Saturday afternoon in Flushing Meadow, New York. The 'Cats are now 4-0 on the year while the Huskies slip to 2-1.
The Wildcat defense shut down Bloomsburg the entire contest, holding the Huskies to negative hitting percentages in the first and third sets.
WSC had 17 kills and posted a .448 hitting percentage in the opening set to collect a 25-7 win. Junior middle hitter
Chloe Hanel produced five kills followed by
Mattie Kamery with four.
The second set saw the 'Cats post a 25-12 win thanks to 15 kills, a .520 hitting percentage and four service aces.
Hanel accounted for six kills with
Delaney Miller and
Channatee Robles each recording four. Kamery and
Reese Johnson each had two service aces.
The final set saw the 'Cats force 10 attack errors on Bloomsburg for a -.300 hitting percentage in the set while also collecting seven service aces to finish the match with a 25-7 set win.
Kamery had three more aces in the third set while
Boe Kaschner and Robles each had two.
WSC finished the contest with a .456 attack percentage recording 38 kills and just seven errors on 68 attempts while holding Bloomsburg to -.108 with 12 kills and 19 errors on 65 attacks.
Hanel had a match-high 13 kills for Wayne State followed by Robles with eight and Miller seven. Kamery recorded six service aces with Johnson, Robles and Kaschner each posting two. Libero

Wayne State resumes play on Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5, playing in Denver at the Colorado Premier Challenge starting with matches on Friday at 11 a.m. vs. Central Missouri and a 7 p.m. contest vs. Regis (Colo.).
