Despite holding a 14-6 advantage in shots, Wayne State College fell to MSU Moorhead 1-0 Friday afternoon in the Northern Sun Conference women's soccer opener for both teams played at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Wildcats drop to 1-3 and 0-1 in the NSIC while the visiting Dragons now sit 2-1-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
The Wildcats held a 9-5 edge in shots during the first half, but the Dragons scored at the 31:00 minute mark with the wind at their back on a shot from Sophie Thompson with an assist by Lilly Allen to take a 1-0 lead at intermission.
The first 30 minutes of the second half was a defensive battle with neither team recording much for shots. WSC then got five shots off in the final 12 minutes but could not find the back of the net as MSU Moorhead closed with a 1-0 win.
Wayne State outshot MSUM 14-6 and held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The 'Cats were called for eight fouls to five on the Dragons while WSC enjoyed a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Olivia Thompson had four shots and three on goal while
Briella Thompsen accounted for the other three shots on goal with six shots.

Alexa Hofstetter recorded four saves in the contest while allowing one goal.
The Wildcats will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting Minnesota Crookston at the WSC Soccer Pitch starting at 1 p.m.
