Wayne State used goals in each half from senior
Tyler Donaldson and sophomore Briella Thopmsen to lead the Wildcats in a 2-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer victory over Minnesota Crookston Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Pitch. With the win the Wildcats improve to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play while the visiting Golden Eagles fall to 0-3-2 and 0-2 in NSIC play.
The Wildcats opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first half when senior defender
Tyler Donaldson notched her second goal of the season with an assist from freshman
Olivia Thompson putting the 'Cats in front 1-0 at intermission.
Wayne State added another goal in the 68
th minute of the second half when
Briella Thompsen recorded her team-leading third goal of the season on assists from
Addison Vodnansky and Thompson giving the Wildcats the 2-0 win.
WSC ended the contest with a 19-7 advantage in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal over the Golden Eagles. Wayne State also enjoyed a 10-7 edge in corner kicks while UMC was called for three more fouls than the 'Cats 10-7.
Donaldson and Thompsen each scored goals and had two shots on goal to pace the Wildcats.
Olivia Thompson added one shot on goal and had two assists while
Addison Walker had the remaining shot on goal for WSC.
Junior goalkeeper
Alexa Hofstetter picked up her first shutout of the season, holding UMC without a goal while producing three saves in the win.
The Wildcats are on the road next weekend for a pair of NSIC contests Friday at Bemidji State in a 3 p.m. game and Sunday at Minnesota Duluth starting at 1 p.m.
