Minnesota Duluth scored the lone goal of the contest late in the 16
th minute of the first half to defeat Wayne State College 1-0 Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played at Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minnesota. The host Bulldogs improve to 4-1-2 and 3-0-1 in the NSIC while the Wildcats slip to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
Minnesota Duluth produced the lone goal of the contest at the 16:49 mark when Lauren McGough scored off an assist from Juliana Zerna giving the Bulldogs the 1-0 advantage.
UMD ended the first half with a 9-3 edge in shots and 7-2 in shots on goal.
The second half saw both teams become more aggressive on the offensive end but neither team scored a goal resulting in the 1-0 final.
Minnesota Duluth had 13 shots (eight on goal) with seven corner kicks in the second half while WSC had six shots (five on goal) and one corner kick.
For the contest, UMD outshot WSC 22-9 including 15-7 in shots on goal. The host Bulldogs enjoyed a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks while UMD was called for 11 fouls compared to seven on WSC.
Freshman
Olivia Thompson accounted for three shots and three shots on goal to lead the Wildcats followed by junior defender
Addison Walker with three shots and two shots on goal.
Sarah Pritchard and
Nyah Lisby were also credited with shots on goal for the Wildcats.
Junior goalkeeper
Alexa Hofstetter recorded 14 saves in the contest while allowing just one goal.
Wayne State is on the road again next weekend for NSIC games visiting Winona State Friday at 5 p.m. and Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest at Concordia-St. Paul.
