Wayne State College women soccer picked up a 3-0 win over the Winona State University Warriors this evening. Sophomore forward
Taylor Woods scored two of the three Wildcat goals in the second half. WSC improves to 3-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the NSIC. WSU moves to 0-7-0 and 0-5-0.
The first half was slow offensively for the 'Cats as they only recorded one shot to the Warriors six. Junior goalkeeper Alexa Hoffstetter recorded three saves in the opening half. The lone shot came from
Kate Cox in the 42
nd minute from the right center of the field just outside the penalty area.
In the second half, Wayne State came out firing, scoring their first goal in the opening 30 seconds.
Tyler Donaldson took the ball up the right side before firing a cross pass to
Taylor Woods who snuck the shot between the Warrior goalie and defender.
Morgan Mancuso recorded her first goal of the season in the 60
th minute. Donaldson pressured the Warrior goalie and deflected a kick right to Mancuso who had an open net for the 'Cats second score of the half.
The Wildcats third and final goal game in the 61
st minute off a Donaldson feed to Woods who headered the ball over the goalie. Wayne State would hold off any comeback attempt from the Warriors to secure the 3-0 win. Donaldson ended the game with a career-high two assists.
WSC recorded five shots in the second half with four of them being on goal. Hofstetter would end the contest with five saves against the Warriors.
The Wildcats play again Sunday afternoon in a 1 p.m. NSIC contest at Concordia-St. Paul.
