Wayne State 81 Bemidji State 67
Laquisha Cook scored a season-high 27 points and Clare Duwelius added a career-high 23 points to help lead Wayne State to an 81-67 win over Bemidji State on Saturday evening in Wayne. The Wildcats improved to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC with the win while Bemidji State dropped to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC with the loss.
WSC hit 30 of 74 shots on the evening for 40.5 percent. The 'Cats made just 4 of 18 from behind the three point line but hit 17 of 22 free throws in the game. Bemidji State hit 27 of 59 shots for 45.8 percent. The Beavers went 4 of 15 from behind the three point line and hit 9 of 11 free throws in the game.
BSU had no answer for Cook and Duwelius. Cook made 10 of 21 shots in the game and made all six of her free throws and also added seven rebounds and four steals to go along with her 27 points. Duwelius went 8 of 16 from the field and added five steals to go along with her 23 points. Freshman Ali Schwartzwald had eight points and six assists, and Mara Hjelle grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for WSC. Heidi Matzke scored 19 points to lead Bemidji State. Taylor Davis added 14 points for the Beavers.
Wayne State will return to action on January 9th and 10th when they travel to Minnesota, Crookston and MSU Moorhead. Both games are set for 6:00 p.m.
