Wayne State's Jennifer Hefner named to Daktronics All-Central Region Second Team

Daktronics All-Central Region Volleyball Release

            Jennifer Hefner of Wayne State College has been named to the Daktronics Volleyball All-Central Region Second Team as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America in the Central Region.  It's the second straight season that Hefner has earned Second Team All-Central Region honors from Daktronics and CoSIDA.

            Hefner, a 6-1 junior middle blocker from Archer, Nebraska (Central City High School), earned First Team All-Northern Sun Conference honors for the second straight year this season, averaging a team-high 3.72 kills and 1.22 blocks per set while hitting .326 for the season.  She led the NSIC this season in blocks, ranked second in points per set (4.66), third in kills per set and seventh in hitting percentage.  Hefner also ranks 12th in NCAA Division II in blocks per set and was also named to the All-Tournament Team at last weekend's NCAA Division II Central Regional.  She was also named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week on September 15th and helped Wayne State win a school record 15 consecutive matches from August 29-September 25th.  Hefner also excels in the classroom, being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Volleyball Team for NCAA Division II on Monday, becoming the first WSC volleyball player to every claim the prestigious honor.

             Wayne State College finished the 2009 season with a 29-8 record, advancing to the NCAA Division II national tournament for the fifth straight season.  The Wildcats advanced to the Central Regional semi-finals before falling to two-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul.  WSC was 16-4 in the Northern Sun Conference this season to tie for second in the conference.
