#23 Wildcats belt 13 homers in sweep over Northern State

           The 23rd ranked Wayne State baseball team belted 13 homers in two games as the Wildcats cruised to an 18-8 and 19-7 Northern Sun Conference baseball doubleheader sweep over Northern State Sunday afternoon.  The games were moved to Redfield, South Dakota due to wet field conditions in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  Wayne State maintains a hold of first place in the NSIC with a 16-1 league mark while improving to 28-8 overall with Northern State dropping to 5-21 overall and 1-13 in league play.

            In the first game, WSC scored in every inning while connecting for nine home runs in a 18-8 win over the Wolves.  John Plasha and Eric Bond each belted two home runs in the win while Justin Hemauer, Mike Bisenius, Nick Bidroski, Brandon Polk and Taylor Welk each connecting for home runs in the lopsided win with Polk's being a grand slam to highlight a six-run sixth inning. 

            Plasha finished the game a perfect 3 for 3 with four runs scored to lead the 17-hit barrage for WSC.  Hemauer, Bond, Bisenius and Bidroski each accounted for three hits in the win. 

            Chad Moreland (5-2) won his fifth straight start, working 4 2/3 innings for the win.  He allowed four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.  Tyler Gutierrez, Matt Hilligas and John Bothwell also pitched in relief for the Wildcats.

            The second game saw more of the same of WSC had four home runs and jumped out to a 19-0 lead to take care of the Wolves 19-7.  Treye Hacker had a huge game at the plate for the Wildcats, going 3 for 4 with seven RBI's and four runs scored.  He blasted a three-run homer in the first, singled in the second and hit a grand slam in the third inning to make up his big day with the bat. 

            Freshman third baseman Jake Ritzdorf was 3 for 5 with four runs scored while Bisenius and Bidroski each had two hits to support Hacker's big day at the plate for the Wildcats.

            Freshman right hander Austen Wisroth (5-1) was credited with the pitching win.  He allowed six runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts and four walks.  Jim Sake and Sam Rathbun both worked in relief and held the Wolves to one run over the final 2 1/3 innings.

            Wayne State will be play Northern State again on Monday at noon to close out the four-game NSIC series.
