Game 2 - St. Cloud State 5 Wayne State 0

The Wayne State College softball team tied the school record for wins in a season by posting a 7-0 shutout win over St. Cloud State in the opening game of an NSIC doubleheader Sunday in Wayne.  However, the visiting Huskies denied the Wildcats a new school record 35th win in the second game by responding with a 5-0 win over WSC.  Wayne State is now 34-16 on the season, matching the 1990 team (34-22) for wins in a single season, and 17-6 in the NSIC while St. Cloud State is now 21-36 overall and 8-16 in league play.

The first game saw sophomore pitcher Katie Goetzinger set a new single season school record with her 12th shutout of the year as the 'Cats posted a 7-0 win.  Goetzinger allowed just three hits and struck out six in the win, improving to 24-10 on the year.  Her 12th shutout of the season breaks the previous school mark of 11 held by Roni Johnson Wobken in the 1990 season.

Offensively, freshman first baseman Alyssa Kirsch was the star of the game for the Wildcats, going 2 for 2 with a homer, triple and four RBI's.  Her two-run homer in the second inning gave WSC a 2-0 lead and her two-run triple down the right field line fueled a five-run fifth inning as the Wildcats went on to the 7-0 win.

Amy Sandstrom was 3 for 4 with a double while Hannah Engelkamp, Brittany Greenwood, Katie Goetzinger and Amber Baird each contributed hits in the Wildcat win.

The second game saw St. Cloud State starting pitcher Brit Krieg stymie Wayne State batters by holding the Wildcats to six hits in a 5-0 win for the Huskies.  St. Cloud State outhit WSC 10-6 in the contest.  Krieg (10-15) did not walk or strike out a batter, but got WSC batters to hit into 10 fly outs and 11 ground outs in the shutout win.

Sandstrom and Greenwood were each 2 for 3 to pace WSC in hitting in the second game while Goetzinger and Sam Earleywine also notched hits for the Wildcats.

Wayne State will close out the regular season at home on Wednesday with a makeup NSIC doubleheader vs. MSU Moorhead starting at noon.
