Senior middle hitter Jennifer Hefner notched a match-high 14 kills with no attack errors and a .538 hitting percentage to power NCAA Division II 4th-ranked Wayne State in a 3-0 Northern Sun Conference volleyball sweep at Minnesota, Crookston Friday evening. Scores of the match were 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18. WSC improves to 17-2 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC while the host Golden Eagles fall to 0-19 on the season and 0-11 in league play.
Wayne State hit .354 in the match compared to .176 for Minnesota, Crookston and the Wildcats held a 48-33 advantage in kills over the Golden Eagles. WSC had seven blocks to four for UMC. Both teams struggled serving the ball as the Wildcats had 10 service errors and Minnesota, Crookston had nine.
Hefner had 14 kills in 26 total attacks without an error to hit .538 and lead Wayne State in hitting. Junior Tali Fredrickson added 12 kills with 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Junior libero Leigh Connot added 11 digs while senior setter Diedra Artz handed out 40 set assists with nine digs to aid the Wildcats in the victory.
Wayne State will be on the road again Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference play, visiting MSU Moorhead at 4:00 p.m.
