#1 Wayne State volleyball makes it a clean sweep over St. Cloud State

            #1 Wayne State swept the St. Cloud State Huskies in Northern Sun Conference Volleyball played Saturday afternoon in Wayne, America by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-11. The win marks the second time this week that the Wildcats defeated the Huskies as WSC swept SCSU Tuesday night in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Wayne State was led by junior Tali Fredrickson (Grand Island, Nebraska) and senior Jennifer Hefner (Archer, Nebraska) who each had 12 kills for the Wildcats. The win improves Wayne State's record to 23-3 overall and 14-3 in the NSIC. The loss drops the Huskies to 12-13 overall and 7-10 in the NSIC.

            Wayne State got out to an early lead in the first set as Wayne State scored seven straight points to jump out to a 9-2 advantage. St. Cloud State would battle back in the first set cutting the deficit  to as little as one at 17-16. The Wildcats would make another run from there as Wayne State went on an eight point run to take the first set 25-16.

            The second set was a back and forth affair with no team leading by more than four points. Wayne State separated themselvesfrom St. Cloud State late in the set when WSC went on a four point run to expand their lead to 24-20. Wayne State held the Huskies to a hitting percentage of .047 in the set as the Wildcats took the second set 25-21. Wayne State came out firing on all cylinders in the third set as Wayne State hit a match high .351 with 15 kills in the set. Wayne State also held the Huskies to a hitting percentage of .000 to take the win in the third set 25-11.

            Wayne State was led by Fredrickson and Hefner with who each had 12 kills. Hefner also added five blocks with Fredrickson adding two blocks along with 11 digs. Junior Mindy Moody added seven kills for Wayne State to go along with three blocks. Diedra Artz was credited with 39 set assists in the match. Defensively, Leigh Connot led Wayne State with 20 digs and Nicole Brungardt tied a career high with 16 digs for WSC.

             Wayne State will on the road in Northern Sun Conference play next weekend, visiting Winona State Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Upper Iowa Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
