            The #17-ranked Wayne State College softball team hit four home runs in the Wildcats' 7-3 win over Concordia- St. Paul in Saturday's winners bracket final at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex in Wayne. The Wildcats will now play in the Central Region Bracket #1 Championship Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex. With the win, the Wildcats set a new school record for wins in a season with 42 surpassing last years win total of 41.

            The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Katie Goetzinger hit her third home run of the year over the left centerfield fence to give Wayne State a 1-0 advantage. The Wildcats would add to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Blaire Kuhl and Sam Earleywine hit back to back homers to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.

            The Golden Bears cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but the 'Cats added to their lead in the bottom of the inning. Brittany Greenwood started of the inning with a single followed by Kassie Nurton reaching on an error and Kuhl reaching base on a walk to load the bases for Jennifer Radley who launched an opposite field grad slam to put the Wildcats up 7-1.

            The Golden Bears battled back in the top of the fifth inning adding two runs to make it 7-3, but the Wildcats pitching staff shut the door as Wayne State downed CSP 7-3. Goetzinger (31-8) got the win for Wayne State tieing the season high for wins in a season (31) that she currently holds. Goetzinger pitched five innings allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Amber Baird pitched the final two innings for WSC allowing only one base runner.

            Greenwood was 3 for 3 on the day for WSC. Kuhl and Sam Earleywine each added two hits including solo home runs. Radley was 1 for 2 with a grand slam and two walks.

            The Wildcats will play Augustana Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at the Pete Chapman Softball Complex.  The 16th-ranked Vikings won two elimination games Saturday, 3-2 over Minnesota Duluth and 5-2 in 8 innings over Concordia-St. Paul, to advance into Sunday's championship game.
