#3 Wayne State 3 Northern State 1

            #3 Wayne State College dropped the first set to a hot hitting Northern State team Friday night but rallied to win the next three sets and down the Wolves 3-1 in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  The Wildcats remain unbeaten at 12-0 overall and 3-0 in the NSIC while Northern State slips to 8-5 on the season and 0-4 in league play.

            The host Wolves pounded out 17 kills with just four attack errors in the first set to take care of the Wildcats 25-14.  WSC came back in the second set and had just two attack errors with 12 kills to beat Northern State 25-20 and tie the match at 1-1.  In the third set, WSC forced Northern State into 10 attack errors as the Wildcats won 25-19 and then survived nine attack errors in the fourth set, but used 20 kills to outlast Northern State 25-22 and win the match 3-1.

            WSC hit just .161 in the match with 22 attack errors and 52 kills while Northern State hit slightly better at .165 with 55 kills and 25 attack errors.  Senior middle hitter Jennifer Hefner led a balanced Wayne State effort with 13 kills and four blocks followed by junior Shelby Schultz with 11 kills and five blocks.  Tali Fredrickson added nine kills and 25 digs while junior libero Leigh Connot notched a team-high 27 digs.  Senior setter Diedra Artz was credited with 46 set assists and 10 digs for the Wildcats.

            Wayne State concludes their Northern Sun Conference road trip Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. match at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.
