Winona State 3 Wayne State 0
Wayne State women's soccer was defeated by Winona State 3-0 Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex in Wayne. The NSIC co-leading Warriors improve to 5-0 in league play and 7-2-1 overall while Wayne State falls to 3-5-2 and 0-4-1 in conference play.
Wayne State had more shots on goal in the first half than the Warriors 4-1 but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities as Winona State took advantage of two free kicks to take a 2-0 halftime lead. Melissa Sellier scored twice within five minutes, both on free kicks in the 29th and 33rd minutes to give the Warriors the first half advantage that they would never relinquish. Winona State added an insurance goal late in the second half as Amanda Dennis scored in the 75th minute to make the final score 3-0. Mallory Hoyt and Kelly Lange each had two shots for WSC in the defeat.
The Wildcats will be on the road next weekend, traveling to Minnesota State Saturday and Southwest Minnesota State Sunday in Northern Sun Conference contests starting at 1:00 p.m. each day.
