Wayne State 1 Missouri Western 0

Sophomore Alexa Romek scored the game's lone goal in the 76th minute to lift Wayne State College in a 1-0 women's soccer non-conference win over Missouri Western Sunday afternoon at the WSC Soccer Complex in Wayne.  The win moves the Wildcats to 2-1 on the season while the visiting Griffons drop to 1-2.

The evenly matched contest featured ball possession by both clubs with few shots on goal.  Missouri Western's Ashlyn Castillo had a great scoring opportunity in the 23rd minute picking up a loose ball and going one on one against Wildcat goalkeeper Jessica Stringer, but Stringer made a great save to keep the game scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, WSC finally snapped the scoreless tie as the Wildcats got a corner kick at the 76:09 mark from McKenna Adams.  After the ball was deflected off a Griffon defender in front of the net, Romek booted the loose ball past Missouri Western goal keeper Kelly Voigts to score at the 76:29 mark for the game's lone goal.  It was her second goal of the weekend after recording one goal and one assist in Friday's 4-2 win over the College of St. Mary.

Both teams finished with nine shots in the contest with WSC holding a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.  The Wildcats had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Griffons while WSC had six fouls compared to five for Missouri Western.

Missouri Western's Ashley Juravich had a match-high four shots for the Griffons while Alex Mathers, Macy Hagen and McKenna Adams each recorded two shots for the Wildcats.  WSC freshman goalkeeper Jessica Stringer made two saves for the Wildcats while recording her first collegiate shutout.

Wayne State will host Emporia State Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in a non-conference contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
