University of Mary 3 Wayne State 0
The University of Mary blanked Wayne State College 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the Northern Sun Conference women's soccer opener for both teams played at the Community Bowl in Bismarck, North Dakota. The host Marauders are now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC while Wayne State is 2-2-1 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Mary opened the scoring in the 27th minute on a goal by Alex Bachman-Williams for a 1-0 Marauder lead at halftime. The Marauders added two goals early in the second half, both off corner kicks, as Mary went on to the 3-0 win. Sami Axtman scored at the 55:29 mark followed by a goal from Kelsey Pacpaco at the 61:55 mark.
Mary had 12 shots to five for WSC with the Marauders holding an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Marauders had four corner kicks to one for WSC while Mary had eight fouls to just two on the Wildcats. Five different players had shots for Wayne State while sophomore goal keeper Ryan Wells made five saves while allowing three goals.
Wayne State will conclude their Northern Sun Conference road trip Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Northern State in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
