#10 Wildcats fall to #4 Minnesota Duluth in NSIC volleyball

            #10 Wayne State College suffered a 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17 setback at #4 and unbeaten Minnesota Duluth Friday evening in Northern Sun Conference volleyball played at Romano Gymnasium in Duluth, Minnesota.  The host Bulldogs improve to 15-0 on the season and 7-0 in the NSIC while WSC falls to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in league play.

            WSC got off to a good start in the first set, holding a 10-9 lead.  But UMD reeled off four straight points to go up 13-10 and the Wildcats never got closer than two points in the first set with the Bulldogs winning 25-19.  The second set saw WSC hold a 15-13 lead, but with the Wildcats leading 18-17 the host Bulldogs scored five straight points to grab a 22-18 lead on their way to a 25-21 win over WSC.  In the third set, WSC held an early 6-4 lead but UMD scored seven of the next eight points to grab an 11-7 lead and the Bulldogs slowly pulled away for a 25-17 win to complete the sweep.

            Minnesota Duluth outhit Wayne State in the match .246-.114 with the Bulldogs holding a 51-32 edge in kills.  WSC did have 10 blocks to just three for UMD while the Bulldogs had 76 digs to 49 for the Wildcats.

            Individually for WSC, senior middle hitter Mindy Moody led the Wildcats with 10 kills and five blocks.  Sophomore defensive specialist McKenna Reagan recorded 11 digs with Tali Fredrickson and Leigh Connot credited with 10 apiece.  Sophomore setter Tatum Wroblewski handed out 25 set assists in the contest.

            The Wildcats will conclude their NSIC road trip Saturday afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Bemidji State.
