Box Score #13 Minnesota Duluth 64 Wayne State 21

               #13 Minnesota Duluth ran for 316 yards and converted three Wayne State turnovers into 21 points as the Bulldogs rolled to a 64-21 Northern Sun Conference football win Saturday afternoon over the Wildcats in the annual Homecoming/Hall of Fame Game at Bob Cunningham Field in Wayne.  It was the first homecoming loss in nine years under Wildcat head coach Dan McLaughlin as Wayne State drops to 1-3 on the season while Minnesota Duluth improves to 3-1 with the win.
                Wayne State turned the ball over on their first two series, resulting in two quick Minnesota Duluth scores.  Senior running back Charlie Davidson fumbled on the second play of the game with UMD's Nate Zuk recovering the ball at the WSC 35.  Logan Lauters rushed for a 13 yard score, giving UMD an early 7-0 lead.  On the next Wildcat series, redshirt freshman quarterback Zac Osborn was intercepted by UMD's Colby Ring, who ran the ball back 28 yards for a score and the Bulldogs held a 14-0 lead just 2:40 into the game.
                The Wildcats responded on the next drive as Osborn hooked up with junior wide receiver Adam Stark on a 65-yard pass play, trimming the UMD lead to 14-7.  WSC then forced the Bulldogs to punt, their only punt of the first half, and the Wildcats tied the score at 14-14 on a 36 yard strike from Osborn to Tonev Abraham with 6:36 to play in the first quarter.
                But Minnesota Duluth then scored on three straight possessions, two on touchdown runs of 64 and three yards by sophomore running back Logan Lauters and another on a three yard jaunt from Austin Sikorski, giving the Bulldogs a commanding 36-14 lead with 10:07 to play in the second quarter.
                Wayne State did pull within 36-21 on the next drive thanks to a 58-yard scoring play from Osborn to Tonev Abraham, but it would be the final time the Wildcat would score in the contest.
                Minnesota Duluth scored again late in the second quarter on a 38-yard pass from Drew Bauer to Zach Zweifel for a 43-21 lead at halftime and then the Bulldogs went to a grinding rushing attack in the second half scoring three more times while limiting the Wildcats to just 35 yards of total offense in the second half as the Bulldogs rolled to the 64-21 win.
                Minnesota Duluth finished the game with 483 yards of total offense compared to 258 for the Wildcats.  UMD had 316 yards on the ground and 167 passing while WSC was held to just 52 yards rushing and 206 passing.  Wayne State had three turnovers in the contest while UMD had one.  The Wildcats were flagged six times for 67 yards while UMD had five penalties for 49 yards.
                Wayne State's top rusher was freshman Rashad Trimble with 34 yards on 20 carries while senior Charlie Davidson, the NSIC's second leading rusher at 168 yards per game, was held to just 23 yards on seven carries.  Redshirt freshman quarterback Zac Osborn completed 8 of 20 passes for 206 yards and three TD's with one interception.  His top target was Tonev Abraham, who hauled in four receptions for 109 yards and two scores while Adam Stark added three catches for 87 yards and one TD.
                Defensively, junior Chase Samuel paced the Wildcats with nine tackles followed by Austan Pomajzl with seven.  Jon Davis had one interception for the Wildcats. 
                Wayne State will be on the road next Saturday visiting Augustana College in a 1 p.m. Northern Sun Conference contest at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
