Wayne State put a close on 2026 spring football practice Saturday morning with their annual season-ending scrimmage held this year indoors on Dr. Ron Holt Field in the Wildcat Dome.
The defense was spotted a 23-0 lead and the Wildcat offense was able to rally with a 26-23 victory.
On the second series of the day, the WSC offense got on the board on a 65-yard drive with Blair sophomore running back
Brock Templar finding the end zone on a two-yard run making the score 23-7.
The next drive saw quarterback
Brady McGill engineer a scoring drive capped by a one-yard pass to running back
Jason Jones to produce a 23-13 score.
Junior placekicker
Boston Hensley scored the next points for the offense botting a 32-yard field goal, reducing the defense advantage to 23-16. Hensley later was successful on a 47-yard field goal making the score 23-19.
The final offensive score came on a 27-yard scoring strike from McGill to sophomore
Corbin Reed giving the offense a 26-23 win.
Four quarterbacks saw action for WSC during the scrimmage. McGill was 5 of 10 passing for 52 yards with two scores.
Bennett Dannenbring completed 3 of 6 passes for 36 yards. Lincoln Pius graduate
Kolbe Volkmer was 3 of 4 for 44 yards while Oakland-Craigh graduate
Braylon Anderson completed 2 of 5 passes for 15 yards.
Leading the rushing attack was Templar with 53 yards on five carries with a long run of 33 yards and a touchdown. McGill added five rushes for 20 yards with Jones finishing at four carries and 10 yards.
On defense,
Curtis Witte was the leading tackler with eight stops followed by Hayden Kelly and
Dayne Mauk with seven tackles apiece. Defensive end
Jackson Bos recorded two sacks and four tackles while
Spencer Easland posted five tackles with one forced fumble.
Wayne State opens the 2026 football season on Thursday, August 27
th at Nebraska-Kearney in a 6 p.m. contest.
