Box Score St. Cloud State 108 Wayne State 74

St. Cloud State shot 58.1 percent from the field (43-74) to take down Wayne State College 108-74 in Northern Sun Conference men's basketball played Saturday evening at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.  The host Wildcats drop to 4-13 and 2-10 in the NSIC while the Huskies improve to 8-10 and 5-7.
Wayne State stayed close early with the Huskies thanks to the shooting of sophomore guard Matt Thomas, who scored the Wildcats' first 14 points of the game in the opening 5:03.
The last lead of the game for WSC was on a Thomas 3-pointer at the 14:57 mark, giving the 'Cats a 14-13 lead.  That would be the last WSC basket for a stretch of 6:57 as St. Cloud State built a 29-22 lead.
The Huskies then took a 14 point lead at 38-24 with 6:15 to play in the half.  WSC got within 11 at 40-29 on a Adam Moon 3-point play, but the Huskies closed the half on a 16-4 run and took a commanding 56-33 lead at intermission thanks to 62 percent shooting (23 of 37) in the first half.
St. Cloud State's hot shooting never allowed Wayne State to make a rally in the second half as the Huskies pulled away for the 108-74 victory.
Thomas led Wayne State in scoring with 28 points, going 9 for 20 from the field and 6 for 6 at the foul line.  It was his sixth game with 25 or more points this season.  Freshman guard Vance Janssen also reached double figures for the Wildcats with 11 points.
Wayne State made 25 of 68 shots from the field for 36.8 percent.  The 'Cats were 8 for 21 behind the arc and 16 of 18 at the free throw line.
Gage Davis produced a double-double for St. Cloud State with 36 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Huskies.  Scottie Stone also had a big game for SCSU with 34 points.  The two combined to shoot 27 of 45 from the field, including 10 of 17 from the 3-point line.
St. Cloud State shot 58.1 percent from the field on 43 of 74.  The Huskies were 12 for 22 from 3-point range and 10 of 14 at the charity stripe.
The Huskies posted a 45-33 rebounding advantage in the game thanks to 13 caroms by Davis.  Adam Moon hauled in eight boards for WSC.
St. Cloud State held a 52-22 advantage on points in the paint and had just 11 turnovers in the game to 14 by WSC.  Thomas was credited with five of Wayne State's 13 assists in the contest.
Wayne State will be on the road next weekend, playing at Upper Iowa Friday night at 8 p.m. and Winona State Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest.
