WSC blanks MSU Moorhead 5-0 on Parent's Day

            Five different players scored goals for Wayne State as the Wildcats recorded a 5-0 Northern Sun Conference women's soccer victory Sunday afternoon over MSU Moorhead on Parent's Day at the WSC Soccer Pitch.  Coupled with yesterday's 3-2 OT win over Northern State, it is the first weekend sweep in NSIC women's soccer for Wayne State since October 22/23, 2011.  WSC is now 6-2-2 on the year and 3-2-2 in the NSIC while MSU Moorhead falls to 2-7 and 1-6 in league play.
            The contest was scoreless until the 36th minute when freshman Madison Burgard scored with an assist from Hannah Knight to put the 'Cats in front 1-0.  WSC scored again at the 39:17 mark of the first half when Knight scored her first goal of the year with Karlee Hall credited for the assist giving the 'Cats a 2-0 lead at intermission.
            WSC added three goals in the second half as the Wildcats used 22 different players on the field to complete the shutout victory.
            Senior Valerie Hernandez recorded an unassisted goal at the 65:25 mark to put the 'Cats ahead 3-0.  Sophomore Brooke Buzzell scored her second goal of the weekend and third this season in front of the goal with an assist from Natalie Rech giving WSC a 4-0 advantage.  The scoring culminated in the 73rd minute when reserve freshman Lauren Fleming found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to make the final count 5-0.
            Wayne State finished with a 19-6 advantage in shots over the Dragons and 11-4 in shots on goal.  The Wildcats held an 11-2 edge in corner kicks and were called for two more fouls than MSUM 12-10.
            Reserves Lauren Fleming and Hannah Knight led WSC with three shots apiece in the win.  Knight had one goal and one assist for WSC while Karlee Hall recorded two assists to lead the 'Cats in scoring.  Burgard, Buzzell, Hernandez and Fleming each added goals for WSC.
            Senior goalkeeper Kylie Comba played just over 76 minutes and had three saves while freshman Rachel Grisham notched 13:33 in goal and was credited with one save.
            The Wildcats will be on the road Friday afternoon visiting Minnesota State in a 1 p.m. NSIC contest.
