Box Score #8 MSU Moorhead 84 Wayne State 72 #8 MSU Moorhead used 58 percent shooting (30-51) to defeat Wayne State College 84-72 Friday evening in Northern Sun Conference men's basketball played at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minnesota. MSUM is now 23-3 overall and 15-2 in the NSIC while WSC falls to 5-18 and 3-14 in league play.
MSU Moorhead led the entire game, using 56.7 percent shooting in the first half (17-30) to build a 45-32 halftime lead on the Wildcats.
WSC kept the game close until a late run by the host Dragons to end the half.
MSUM built a 23-16 lead at the midway point of the first half. The Wildcats got as close as four at 31-27 following a
JJ Zumbrennen 3-pointer with 6:18 to play.

Vance Janssen 3-pointer pulled WSC within six at 38-32 with 3:13 left before halftime. The Dragons then held the 'Cats without a point the rest of the half to build the 45-32 lead at intermission.
MSU Moorhead maintained a double digit lead in the second half and built a pair of 21 point leads with just over 10 minutes remaining.
With MSU Moorhead leading 64-43, the Wildcats held the Dragons without a basket for nearly four minutes and went on a 14-3 run to get within 10 at 67-57 on a pair of
Matt Thomas free throws with 7:37 remaining.
The Dragons scored the next six points to take a 73-57 lead and WSC never got closer than 11 the rest of the game as MSU Moorhead finished with an 84-72 win.

Vance Janssen with 15 and senior forward
David Andersen with 11.
Wayne State made 26 of 60 shots from the field for 43.3 percent. The 'Cats sank a season-high 12 3-pointers (12-22) for 54.5 percent and made 8 of 12 free throws.
Senior center Isaac Sevlie scored a game-high 23 points to lead five MSU Moorhead double figure scorers. Tanner Kretchman added 13 points while Tyler Vaughan (12), Ayob Ayob (11) and Ngijol Songolo (10) also reached double digits for the Dragons.
MSU Moorhead shot 58.8 percent from the field making 30 of 51 shots. The Dragons were 11 for 22 from behind the arc and 13 for 23 at the free throw line.
Both teams hauled in 31 rebounds in the contest.
Adam Moon grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for Wayne State while Songolo had six boards for MSUM.
WSC had 14 turnovers to just nine by MSU Moorhead. Janssen had four of Wayne State's 16 assists in the contest and also had a team-high two steals.
Wayne State will visit Northern State Saturday evening for a 6 p.m. contest in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
