Minnesota Duluth rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half, then won the game in overtime with a goal in the 95
th minute to hand Wayne State College a heartbreaking 5-4 overtime loss Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played at the WSC Soccer Pitch. The Bulldogs are now 9-5-2 and 6-5-2 in the NSIC while the Wildcats fall to 3-8-5 and 2-7-4 in league play.
UMD opened the scoring just over two minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead.
WSC countered with two goals in a span of six minutes moments later to grab a 2-1 advantage. Sophomore
Sophie Ketchmark found the back of the net on a penalty kick at the 5:55 mark to even the score at 1-1 followed by a goal from junior forward
Christina Stasi at the 11:53 mark with an assist from
Hannah Knight that put the 'Cats in front 2-1.
The first half scoring barrage continued at the 32:04 mark with a goal from Minnesota Duluth to knot the score at 2-2.
Wayne State regained the lead just before intermission as
Carleigh Wilson scored her first goal of the season with an assist by
Natalie Rech to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead.
The Wildcats extended the advantage to 4-2 less than two minutes into the second half as junior
Alexis Strothers scored her second goal in as many days with an assist from
Rachel Fraser at the 46:47 mark.
But UMD started their rally with goals in the 55
th minute and another at the 75:36 mark to send the contest into overtime tied at 4-4.
The visiting Bulldogs capped the comeback with a goal in overtime at the 5:11 mark to win 5-4.
UMD held a 17-14 advantage in shots over the Wildcats and 10-6 in shots on goal. WSC had one more corner kick than UMD 7-6 while UMD was called for 10 fouls to just five on the Wildcats.

Alexis Strothers each scored goals for the Wildcats.
Natalie Rech had a team-high three shots with one assist while
Hannah Knight and
Rachel Fraser also assisted on goals for WSC.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Rachel Grisham was credited with five saves in the overtime loss.
The Wildcats will be at home on Friday hosting Southwest Minnesota State at 3 p.m. in the final home game of the season at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
