            Bemidji State posted a Northern Sun Conference softball sweep over Wayne State College Saturday afternoon in Bemidji, Minnesota at the Beavers registered wins by scores of 3-1 and 5-1. WSC is now 11-35 and 5-17 in the NSIC while BSU improves to 22-15 overall and 12-10 in league games.
           The opener saw the host Beavers produce three runs on three hits with one Wildcat error in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 3-1 win.
           WSC made the most of its three hits in the game as the Wildcats scored in the top of the fourth inning with two outs and no runners on.Â
Jordyn Breitbarth singled and crossed home plate on an RBI double down the left field line by
Rachel Shumaker for a 1-0 lead.
           The score remained that way until the sixth inning when the Beavers struck for three runs off Wildcat starter
Riley Vanderveen to post the come-from-behind win.
           BSU held an 8-3 edge in hits over the Wildcats in the first game. Shumaker doubled for the lone extra base hit while Breitbarth and
Melanie Alyea each singled.
           Vanderveen suffered the hard-luck pitching loss, allowing just three runs (one earned) on eight hits.
           The second game saw the Wildcats outhit Bemidji State 9-7, but the Beavers used two runs in the first and three more in the sixth for a 5-1 win over the Wildcats to complete the sweep.
           WSC scored its lone run of the game in the sixth, but had scoring chances in the fourth and fifth innings and came up empty both times.Â
           In the fourth,
Monique Alyea doubled and
Melanie Alyea singled to put runners at first and third with no outs, but WSC could not get another hit to score a run. The 'Cats loaded the bases with three singles in the fifth by
Sarah Hunter,
Katelyn Wobken and
Monique Alyea but came up empty again.
           WSC scored in the sixth inning on a Breitbarth single and Shumaker RBI double down the right field line to trim the Beaver advantage to 2-1. BSU then put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth to make the final score 5-1.
           Wayne State had nine hits in the loss to just seven for Bemidji State.Â
Monique Alyea was 3 for 4 with a double followed by
Katelyn Wobken going 2 for 4. Shumaker added a double and RBI while
Melanie Alyea, Breitbarth and
Sarah Hunter each singled.

Nataliah Hopkins was tagged with the pitching loss, allowing seven hits and five runs (two earned) over six innings of work with four strikeouts and two walks.
           WSC will visit Minnesota Crookston Sunday for a 1 p.m. NSIC doubleheader.
