Dendinger rallies for sixth place finish in discus for another All-American honor at NCAA DII Outdoor Track/Field Championships

NCAA Division II Women's Discus Final Results

            Wayne State College junior Michaela Dendinger rallied for a sixth place finish in the discus Friday afternoon to earn her second All-American finish at the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and hosted by the University of Tampa.
            Dendinger, a graduate of Hartington Public HS, was the ninth and final qualifier for the finals in the prelims, then posted two stellar marks in the finals to move up to sixth place and collect her second All-American finish in the discus after taking second in 2015 as a sophomore.
            In the prelims, Dendinger had her best throw on the first attempt at 158' 4" followed by a foul and a mark of 152' 0".  Entering finals as the ninth and final qualifier, Dendinger posted a throw of 164'7" on her first attempt to move up to sixth place.  She stayed in sixth place following her second throw after improving to 165' 4".  Dendinger's final attempt in finals was a mark of 148' 11".
            Dendinger has now collected two All-American finishes at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, placing second Thursday in the hammer throw (206' 1") to go with Friday's sixth place finish in the discus.
            Dendinger will compete again on Saturday afternoon in the shot put at 12:15 p.m. Central Time where she enters nationals ranked second in the event with a regular season top mark of 53' 10 ¼".
