Williams wins shot put on final throw to cap seventh place finish for WSC women at NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships

            Sophomore thrower Jalecia Williams won the shot put on her final throw of the day to highlight day two for the Wayne State College women's indoor track and field team Saturday at the 2026 Northern Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minnesota.  As a team Wayne State finished seventh out of 15 teams scoring 42.33 points. 
            Minnesota State easily captured the women's team title with 216.33 points, well ahead of second place UMary at 111.  Winona State was third with 76 points followed by Minnesota Duluth (68) and Augustana (61) in the top five.  Northern State finished just ahead of Wayne State sixth place at 48.33 points followed by WSC, Sioux Falls (28.5), Concordia-St. Paul (21) and St. Cloud State (18.5) in the top 10.
            Williams, a sophomore from Omaha Burke, was sitting in third place entering her final throw when she posted a winning mark of 45' 1 ¾" to captured the individual championship in the shot put.  She also had a fifth-place finish Friday in the weight throw at 55' 4 ¾".
            Teammate Olivia Schwarzrock also made a similar move on her last attempt in the shot put improving from sixth to third on her final throw to earn All-NSIC honors at 44' 2 ¾".  She also had an All-NSIC finish Friday in the weight throw taking second at 57' ¾". 
            Saturday's remaining points in individual events came from senior Anna Coffee, collecting a fifth-place finish in the indoor pentathlon scoring 3,478 points. 
            Wayne State's other points on Friday came from junior Kailee Kellum, who was one of three jumpers that tied for second in the high jump clearing a personal-best 5' 5 ¼" to earn All-NSIC honors.  She also collected an eighth-place medal in the long jump at 18' 6 ½".
            The distance medley relay quartet of Allie Czapla, Alaina Nelson, Meghan Cunningham and Sydney Escritt placed eighth in a time of 12:38.80 while the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Reagan Murphy, Kyla Krusemark, Zoey Holmes and Carly Busch took seventh place Saturday with a time of 4:01.71.
