The Wayne State College women's outdoor track and field team had 11 top-five finishes on their way to a third-place finish at the Midwest Classic hosted by Emporia State in Kansas Friday afternoon. The Wildcats scored 77.5 points and posted a third-place finish out of 16 teams competing.
Fort Hays State won the team title at 141 points with host Emporia State second at 103 and Wayne State third with 77.5 points. Nebraska-Kearney was fourth at 64.5 with Central Missouri fifth scoring 56 points.
Second-place finishers included freshman Breylea Botts in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.35 seconds,
Reagan Murphy in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.30,
Kailee Kellum in the long jump with a top mark of 18' 2 ¼" and senior
Olivia Schwarzrock in the shot put at 44' ¾".
Jonnicia Williams scored a third-place finish in the 800-meter run at 2:23.74 and Allie Czapla took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:22.54.
Junior thrower
Torrance Tso had a fourth-place finish in the discus at 146' 11 with teammate
McKinley Grover taking fifth at 146' 6" while also posting a fifth-place mark in the shot put at 41' 8 ¾".
Other fifth-place finishes came from
Taylor Arp in the hammer throw (161' 0") and
Lindsey Kneifl in the long jump with a mark of 17' ½".
Wayne State will compete on Friday and Saturday at the Sioux City Relays.
