Northern State eliminates WSC from NSIC Baseball Tournament

            Wayne State College was eliminated Thursday evening from the 2018 NSIC Baseball Tournament with a 12-6 loss to Northern State at Sioux Falls Stadium.  The Wildcats end the year at 21-26 while the Wolves stay alive in the tournament with a 22-19 record.
            The Wildcats never led in the contest as the Wolves opened the game with a four run first inning.
            All of Wayne State's runs in the game were unearned as both teams made five errors.
            WSC scored two runs in the bottom of the first, using two Wolve errors along with an RBI single from Travis Miller, to trail 4-2 after one inning.
            Northern State added one run in the third and put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning, chasing Wildcat starter Aidan Breedlove.
            The Wildcats scored one run in the fifth as senior designated hitter Rob Ramsey singled and later scored on a Northern State throwing error.
            The Wolves closed out their scoring with two runs in the sixth for a 12-3 lead and Wayne State scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 12-6.  Andrew Hanson had an RBI triple while Ramsey and Tanner Simons each had RBI singles.
            Northern State had one more hit than WSC, 13-12, while both teams made five errors.
            Alex Logelin and Simons each were 2 for 5 at the plate with two runs scored with Simons recording a double.  Miller was 2 for 5 with an RBI and double while Ramsey was also 2 for 5 with an RBI.  Junior third baseman Kyle Thompson contributed two singles in the contest.
            Breedlove (2-6) was tagged with the pitching loss, yielding nine runs on nine hits over 3 2/3 innings.  Isaac Rubendall worked 2 1/3 innings of relief and gave up three runs on three hits.  Brady Johnson, Spencer Johnson and Adam Poldberg each worked one inning of scoreless relief and allowed just one hit combined.
