CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer Release
Madison Burgard,
Rachel Grisham and
Sophia Ketchmark of Wayne State College were named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Women's Soccer Team announced Wednesday morning. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
All three players were recognized as Second Team Academic All-Americans and join
Christina Stasi (Third Team in 2018) as the only Academic All-Americans in the 23-year history of the program.
Burgard is a 5-8 senior defender from Bismarck, North Dakota (Bismarck HS) who maintains a 4.00 grade point average majoring in chemistry and health sciences. On the field this year, the captain started 18 games on defense and ranked fourth on the team in minutes played with 1,528. She anchored a Wildcat defense that recorded six shutouts this season. Burgard is a three-time selection to the NSIC Fall Academic Team and was awarded the Butch Raymond Sanford Health Scholarship for this year.
Grisham is a 5-4 senior goalkeeper from Columbus (Columbus HS) and carries a 4.00 grade point average majoring in criminal justice. On the field, she posted a 6-9-4 record with six shutouts and a 1.27 goals against average while starting all 19 games for the Wildcats this season. Grisham was credited with 70 saves and a .745 save percentage and finished her WSC career tied for fourth in shutouts (10) and fifth in career saves with 187. She is a three-time NSIC Fall All-Academic recipient.
Ketchmark is a 5-4 senior midfielder from La Vista (Omaha Gross HS) and has a 4.00 grade point average majoring in biology and life sciences. She earned All-NSIC Second Team honors this season after leading the Wildcats in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists. Ketchmark led the team in minutes played (1,612) and scored two goals in a 2-0 win at Minnesota Crookston on October 27
th. She also assisted goals at Sioux Falls, vs. Minot State and vs. Northern State. Ketchmark was an All-NSIC Honorable Mention selection last season as a junior and is a three-time selection to the NSIC All-Academic Team.
Wayne State College finished the 2019 season with a record of 6-9-4 overall and placed eighth in the NSIC with a 6-7-2 league mark to qualify for the NSIC Tournament for the first time since 2006.
