Wayne State 5 Urbana (Ohio) 1

            The Wayne State College softball team won their fourth straight game at the National Training Center Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida Wednesday afternoon as the Wildcats defeated Urbana University of Ohio 5-1.  WSC is now 9-12 with Urbana falling to 4-6.
            The Wildcats used another stellar pitching performance, holding the Blue Knights to just four hits, and a three RBI game from sophomore shortstop Kim Vidlak to improve to 4-2 in Florida.
            Scoreless after two innings, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the top of third with two runs.  Kamryn Sparks and Molli Vasa led off the inning with singles and both players scored on a two-run double to left field by Vidlak to take the early lead.
            Urbana cut into the deficit in the bottom of the third with one run, but the Wildcats gained the run back in the top of the fourth as freshman catcher Clare Reinhart walked and crossed home plate on a single to center field by Sparks for a 3-1 WSC advantage.
            Wayne State added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh.  Riley Holmberg singled to start the inning and scored on a single to left field by Vidlak for a 4-1 lead.  Ashley Hernandez reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a RBI single from Reinhart to make the score 5-1.
            The Wildcats held an 8-4 edge in hits over Urabana, thanks to Vidlak going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI.  Sparks ended 2 for 3 with an RBI and run scored while Holmberg was 2 for 3 with one run scored.  Reinhart and Vasa each singled to close out Wayne State's offense.
            The pitching duo of junior Maddie Moser and freshman Sloan Cooksey shined in the circle for the Wildcats, holding Urbana to just four hits and one run in the win.  Moser improved to 4-2 on the season with four innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.  Cooksey notched her fourth save of the year with three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
            Wayne State will close out their annual spring break to Florida with two more games Thursday, facing Pittsburgh at Johnstown at 9 a.m. and Malone (Ohio) at 11:15 a.m. in Auburndale, Florida.
