California (Pa.) used a three-run fifth inning to defeat Wayne State 4-3 Sunday afternoon in Auburndale, Florida at the National Training Center Spring Games. The Wildcats' season record drops to 5-11 while the Vulcans improved to 2-7.
The Vulcans scored the first run of the contest after singling and later scoring in the top of the third.
Wayne State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth after a right field double by
Kim Vidlak and a two-run homer from
Ashley Hernandez to score Vidlak.
In the top of the fifth California Pa. produced three runs off two hits giving them a 4-2 advantage over WSC.
The 'Cats picked up one run in the fifth when
Molli Vasa doubled and later scored on an RBI single from
Kortney Buresh shortening the lead 4-3.
Neither team scored the remainder of the game and California (Pa.) finished with the win over Wayne State.
Freshman pitcher
Sloan Cooksey (1-6) earned the pitching loss for the Wildcats, charged with three runs, three hits, four base-on-balls and one strikeout in four innings pitched.
Hadley Chvatal started the first three innings.
Five different Wildcats recorded a hit. Hernandez led with a two-run homer, Vidlak and Vasa picked up a double apiece and Buresh recorded a hit and RBI.
Wayne State was scheduled to face Dominican College of New York in another game Sunday afternoon at the NTC Spring Games in Florida.
