Wayne State and Sioux Falls battled to a 1-1 overtime tie in Northern Sun Conference women's soccer played Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Wildcats are now 3-6-2 and 3-4-1 in the NSIC while USF is 1-8-2 and 1-5-2 in league games.
Both goals of the contest were scored in the first half.
Wayne State struck first at the 27:19 mark when senior midfielder
Madison Kemp scored her team leading fourth goal of the season off an assist from
Abby Sutton for a 1-0 lead.
Sioux Falls answered right before halftime as Sarah Miller scored for the Cougars with an assist from Olivia Valdez to knot the score at 1-1.
WSC closed the first half with a 6-2 edge in shots over the Cougars and held a 2-1 shot advantage in a defensive-minded second half that sent the game into overtime.
In the first extra session, WSC had four shots on goal in just 10 minutes compared to none for Sioux Falls but could not break the tie. The second overtime saw the Cougars post two shots on goal to one for WSC but the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
Wayne State ended with a 13-5 edge in shots and shots on goal over the Cougars and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Wildcats were called for twice as many fouls as USF, 24-12, but the Cougars were called for two yellow cards.
Kemp, Sutton and
Morgan Rhodes each had three shots on goal for WSC with Kemp scoring the lone goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Katherine Hageman played all 110 minutes for the Wildcats and was credited with four saves while allowing just one goal.
The Wildcats will be at home next weekend hosting the University of Mary Friday at 3 p.m. and Minot State Sunday in a 12 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Pitch.
