Chvatal fans eight, Hernandez homers again in WSC 7-1 win over Southwest Baptist

            Sophomore Hadley Chvatal struck out eight batters in a complete game win while eight different Wildcats recorded hits in Wayne State's 7-1 win over Southwest Baptist Saturday afternoon at the Emporia State Softball Tournament in Kansas.  WSC moves to 2-7 with the win while the Bearcats dropped to 0-7.
            The Wildcats scored first in the second inning as Michaela Smith singled and later scored on a Riley Holmberg single for a 1-0 lead.
            WSC increased the lead to 4-0 in the third as Kortney Buresh singled, Kim Vidlak doubled and both scored on a Ashley Hernandez home run.
            In the sixth inning, Wayne State scored again for a 5-0 lead as Madison Gomez walked and scored on a single by Buresh.
            Wayne State added two more runs in the seventh as Hernandez doubled, Kamryn Sparks reached on an error and both players scored on a single to center field by Jenna Etmans for a 7-0 lead.
            Southwest Baptist avoided the shutout in the bottom of the seventh with one run on three hits as WSC closed with the 7-1 win.
            WSC finished with 13 hits in the game, led by Holmberg going 3 for 4 with an RBI.  Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a home run, double and three RBI.  Buresh and Etmans each went 2 for 4 with Etmans notching two RBI while Buresh added an RBI and run scored.  Vidlak doubled with Sparks, Smith and Gomez each singling to round out Wayne State's balanced hitting attack.
            Sophomore starter Hadley Chvatal notched a complete game win for WSC, improving to 2-3 on the year.  The Wahoo native struck out eight batters and allowed just one run on seven hits with three walks.
            Wayne State was slated to face Washburn Saturday evening to close out Saturday play at the Emporia State Tournament.
