Newman Spring Invite Final Results

            The Wayne State College women's golf team posted rounds of 315 and 330 for a 36-hole total of 645 to place 15th out of 18 teams at the Newman Spring Invitational played at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas Monday and Tuesday.
            Rogers State of Oklahoma edged Central Oklahoma and Henderson State by one stroke, 604-605, for the team title.  Central Missouri was a close fourth at 608 with Missouri-St. Louis and Oklahoma Baptist tied for fifth at 618.
            Wayne State opened the tournament with a 315 on Monday, the fifth-best single day score in school history, to sit in a tie for ninth place. 
            Mekky Winyarat, a sophomore from Bangkok, Thailand (Dodge City CC), was the top Wildcat finisher tied for 36th out of 94 players with rounds of 77 and 81 for a 158.  Millard North sophomore Jazmine Taylor was just one shot back at 159 followed scores of 79 and 80 to tie for 43rd.
            Freshman Abbigail Brodersen and sophomore Tricia Hemann, playing as an individual, each recorded rounds of 81 and 82 for a 163 two-day score to tie for 59th overall. 
            Sophomore Abbey Kurmel followed in a tie for 73rd with a 167 (80-87) while junior Paige Peters recorded scores of 79 and 94 to tie for 82nd.
            Wayne State will host the Wildcat Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 11 and 12, at the Wayne Country Club.
