Erica Lee tied a school record Tuesday with a final round two-under-par 70 while helping the Wayne State College women's golf team to a second-place finish at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invite played in Cairo at Centura Hills Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.
Nebraska-Kearney edged Wayne State for the team title 601-608 with Doane placing third at 644. Concordia University (677) and Hastings College at 693 rounded out the top five teams as 10 teams competed in the 36-hole event. The Wildcats fired a 311 on the opening day and closed the tournament with a solid team score of 297 Tuesday for their 608 team score.
Lee, a graduate of Millard North HS, placed second overall out of 50 players in the field firing rounds of 79 Monday and a -2 70 on Tuesday that matches the school record set two weeks ago (September 21
st) by freshman
Molly Goc who shot a -2 69 at the MIAA Fall Preview in Kansas. Lee had five birdies on her final round and closed with a two-day, 36-hole score of 149. It was Lee's second round under par this season to go with her -1 70 shot at the MIAA Fall Preview two weeks ago.
The next Wildcat finisher was junior
Camryn Johnson (Broken Bow HS), who tied for third overall at 150 thanks to rounds of 78 and an even-par 72 Tuesday that included four birdies. Freshman Saleah Vivanh-Vong was right behind in sixth place with a 151 shooting scores of 77 and 74 for +7 151.
Other Wildcat scorers were senior
Hailey Kenkel tied for eighth at 158, shooting 77 and 81, while freshman
Molly Goc tied for 16
th overall with rounds of 82 and 85 for a 167.
Wayne State will continue their fall season next Sunday-Tuesday, October 11-13 at the Central Region Preview in Kearney played at Meadowlark Hills Golf Course.
