Wayne State men take fifth at NSIC Track and Field Championships

Final Results 2022 NSIC Outdoor Track/Field Championships

            Wayne State College scored 54.5 points and finished fifth place at the 2022 Northern Sun Conference Track and Field Championships held in Aberdeen, South Dakota at Swisher Field.  The Wildcats ended the two-day meet with one NSIC champion, five All-NSIC performers, one new school record and one NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
            Minnesota State captured a 10th straight NSIC men's title with 214 points, easily topping second place Augustana's 136 points.  MSU Moorhead was third at 132 points followed by Northern State (73) and Wayne State with 54.5 points.  The University of Mary was sixth at 50 points, edging Minnesota Duluth's 49.5 and Sioux Falls was eighth with 40 points.
            Rounding out the team scoring were Concordia-St. Paul (30), Minot State (24), Southwest Minnesota State (9) and Upper Iowa (7). 
           The Wildcats scored 18 points in the decathlon thanks to a 1-2 finish by senior Noah Lilly and freshman Alex Brandt.  Lilly won the 10-event competition with 6,006 points, highlighted by a first place finish in the pole vault clearing 14' 8 ¼".  Brandt was right behind in second place with 5,878 points that included a first place finish in the high jump (6' 4 ¼").
            Sophomore Dylan Kneifl eclipsed his own school record in the high jump, clearing 6' 11 ½" to break his old school mark by ½ inch.  He also set a new NCAA provisional mark in the event.
            Senior Cole Christoffersen also earned All-NSIC honors with a second place mark in the hammer throw at 189' 5".
            Freshman Logan Moeller collected All-NSIC honors with a third place finish in the triple jump (47' 8") and was fifth in the long jump with a top mark of 23' 9".
            Other medal winners for the Wildcats included freshman Daniel Elge was sixth in the shot put (49' 9 ¼"), Alex Brandt was sixth in the javelin at 158' 11" and senior Aaron English tied for sixth in the high jump clearing 6' 3 ¼".
            The Wildcat 4 x 400 meter relay team of Jacob Ladage, Gabe Peitz, Bryce Holcomb and Nathan Pearson placed seventh in 3:23.83.
