WSC women picked seventh in Preseason NSIC Indoor Track and Field Coaches' Poll

            The Wayne State College women's indoor track and field team was picked to finish seventh in the 2023-24 NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll released Wednesday morning by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota.  Wildcat senior Kelsey Larsen and sophomore Anna Coffee were listed as Wildcat Athletes to Watch in the NSIC this season.
            Four-time defending champion Minnesota State was selected as the team to beat in NSIC women's indoor track and field this season, receiving 165 points and 12 first-place votes.  Augustana followed in second at 151 points and one first-place with Winona State third collecting 137 points, just ahead of fourth-place University of Mary with 136 points and one first-place vote. 
            Sioux Falls was fifth at 113 points followed by Minnesota Duluth with 103 and Wayne State seventh at 94, just ahead of Northern State's 92 points in eighth.  Rounding out the coaches' poll were Concordia-St. Paul (68), Bemidji State (59), St. Cloud State (52), MSU Moorhead (50), Southwest Minnesota State (31) and Minot State (23).
            Kelsey Larsen, a senior mid distance runner from Walthill (BRLD HS), was listed as Wayne State's Track Athlete to Watch this season.  Last year Larsen earned All-NSIC honors placing second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.52 and set a new school record in the event in a time of 2:56.80 at the SDSU Last Chance Invite.
            Anna Coffee is a sophomore from Hinton, Iowa (Hinton HS) and selected as the Wildcat Field Athlete to Watch this season.  Last year as a freshman Coffee placed sixth in the pentathlon at the NSIC Indoor Championships with 3,240 points. 
            Wayne State opens the 2023-24 indoor track and field season this Friday (December 1) competing at the South Dakota State Holiday Invite in Brookings.
