Wildcat women take sixth at NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Final Results 2023 NSIC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships

            The Wayne State College women's track and field team scored 45 points and placed sixth at the 2023 Northern Sun Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Mankato, Minnesota Saturday and Sunday.  The Wildcats finished the meet with one NSIC champion and three All-NSIC performers that each placed second.
            Minnesota State easily won the team title with 216.5 points with Augustana a distant second at 95.  Winona State placed third at 74 points followed by Sioux Falls (64.5) and UMary (52.5) rounding out the top five teams.
            Wayne State was sixth with 45 points and Northern State seventh (39.5).  Minnesota Duluth (37), Concordia-St. Paul (32) and St. Cloud State (26.5) closed out the top 10 in the standings.  Rounding out the team scoring were Bemidji State (25), MSU Moorhead (24), Southwest Minnesota State (7.5) and Minot State (1).
            Senior thrower Brooklynn Chipps was the individual champion for Wayne State winning the weight throw Saturday with a top mark of 65' 2 ¾". 
            Senior Mckenzie Scheil had a pair of All-NSIC finishes taking second in the shot put Sunday (46' 6"), an NCAA provisional mark, to go with a second place mark Saturday in the weight throw at 59' 9 ½". 
            Junior Kelsey Larsen collected the final All-NSIC finish for the Wildcats Sunday placing second in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:57.52 while teammate Kylie Pachta placed fifth in the same event with a time of 3:01.56.
            Other Wildcat medal winners included sophomore Brooke Languis taking fifth in the shot put (45' 7"), Anna Coffee scored 3,240 points (NCAA provisional mark) to earn a sixth place medal in the pentathlon.
            Junior Emily Smollen made the finals of the long jump but just missed a medal finishing ninth at 18' 6" along with Keyla Sambo in the triple jump (37' 1/4").  Senior Kendra Paasch also made the finals in the shot put and was ninth with a mark of 44' 2".
