SMSU Challenge Results
Wayne State shot rounds of 309 and 327 to capture the Southwest Minnesota State Challenge team title by 10 strokes over Ashland (Ohio) Thursday and Friday at Wigwam Blue Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The Wildcats finished the eight-team event with a 636, 10 shots ahead of second place Ashland at 646.
Host Southwest Minnesota State was third at 650, just ahead of fourth place Chadron State's 653. Rounding out the team scoring were Concordia-St. Paul (658), Minot State (709), Minnesota Crookston (730) and Bemidji State (735).
Wayne State's top scorer was freshman
Saffire Sayre shooting a 154 to place second overall after rounds of 72 and 82. Right behind was junior
Jazmine Taylor who was third overall at 155 with scores of 79 and 76.
Junior
Abbey Kurmel tied for ninth at 162 (76-86), Abby Brodersen was tied for 14
th with a 165 after shooting 82-83 and
Tricia Hemann finished in a tie for 21
st at 169 with scores of 82 and 87.
Senior Viktoria Bortkiewicz Hamelin played as an individual and shot scores of 88 and 92 for a 180.
Wayne State resumes the spring season April 3 and 4 at the Newman Spring Invitational in Kansas.
