Wayne State's offense capped a stellar week by producing 16 runs on 17 hits as the Wildcats completed a series sweep Saturday afternoon with a 16-6 victory over Bemidji State in seven innings in Northern Sun Conference baseball played at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne. The 'Cats are now 14-15 and 8-7 in the NSIC while BSU falls to 2-31 and 1-17 in league games.
After Bemidji State opened with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, WSC followed with a five-run bottom of the first on six hits to take a 5-2 lead.
Colin Lynam and
Quinn McCafferty each had RBI doubles while
Hunter Babe posted an RBI single for big hits in the inning.
With WSC leading 5-3 entering the bottom of the third, the 'Cats scored two more runs on RBI singles by
Braden Cannon and
Cade Lynam for a 7-3 advantage.
The 'Cats produced five runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth for a 16-3 cushion. RBI doubles by
Colin Lynam and
Chase Douglas highlighted the five-run fourth while
Colin Lynam blasted a two-run homer in the fifth.
Bemidji State added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to close the scoring in a 16-6 Wildcat win.
Wayne State had 17 hits in the win, led by
Colin Lynam's 4 for 4 day with a homer, two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored.
Carter Thomas went 3 for 5 with a double and three runs scored. Cannon ended 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI while
Trey Wells and
Kyler Essink each contributed two hits for WSC at the plate.
Sophomore
Nathan Anderson (2-3) won his second straight start, working five innings and allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
Dylan Rodgers and
Riley Miller each pitched one inning of relief.
The Wildcats will be at home again Wednesday afternoon hosting Minot State in a mid-week NSIC doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
