Wayne State volleyball announces four signings

11/13/2024 1:45:00 PM

Wayne State College head volleyball coach Scott Kneifl today announced the signings of four players to national letters of intent to attend Wayne State and play for the Wildcats in the 2025-26 academic year.  The quartet includes Bella Hedke from Marysville, Kansas, Mattie Kamery of Minden, Boe (Bo) Kaschner from Kaukauna, Wisconsin and Delaney Miller of Ankeny, Iowa.
Bella Hedke (head-key) is a 5-11 middle hitter from Johnson County Community College in Kansas that will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats.  This season, Hedke is averaging 2.30 kills and 1.15 blocks per set with a .285 hitting percentage for the 27-6 Cavaliers, who will play in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament next weekend (Nov. 20-23) in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Last season she was All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division II honorable mention with a .296 hitting percentage while leading the conference with 132 blocks.
"Bella is a dynamic, yet very consistent middle at one of the top junior colleges in the country," stated Kneifl.  "She is a winner and plays very hard in all situations.  Her knowledge of the game and quick arm will be welcomed additions into our program.  Bella will train in the middle and on the right side and will add depth to our variety of options.  She helped lead her team to the national championship last year and we can't wait to get her into our program this winter."
Mattie Kamery (cam-uh-ree) is a 5-10 outside hitter/setter from Minden High School where she is a multi-sport standout in volleyball, basketball and track and field.  She led the Whippets to back-to-back Class C1 state titles in volleyball and a third-place finish in her sophomore season with a combined three-year record of 106-6.  This season Kamery recorded 427 kills and a .362 hitting percentage with 257 digs and 66 service aces leading Minden to a 37-1 record and a second straight Class C1 state title.  For her career, Kamery had 1,706 kills, 1,544 digs and 250 service aces that included a school record 11 aces in one match.
On the basketball court last season, Kamery earned Class C1 All-State Second Team honors averaging 15.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the field leading Minden to a 20-4 record and a trip to the Class C1 State Tournament.  She is also a state track qualifier in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.  Other honors for Kamery include Hastings Tribune Player of the Year, NSAA Academic All-State and Believers and Achievers recipient.
"Mattie is a versatile player that can both set and hit at the college level," remarked Coach Kneifl.  "We are thrilled to see the immediate impact that she can make in our program.  The possibilities of not only the positions Mattie can play but also moving other players around to be more productive is very exciting.  Her volleyball IQ is off the charts and we are fortunate to have her join the Wildcats."
Boe Kaschner (Bo / Cash-ner) is a 5-4 defensive specialist/libero from Kaukauna, Wisconsin that is a two-year starter.  This season she had 479 digs (4.2 per set) with 82 service aces after recording 378 digs and 58 aces during her junior season in 2023.  Kaschner was named All Fox Valley Association honorable mention this season and was named Academic First Team.
"Boe is a very skilled defensive specialist that we were able to get a closer look at this summer in our camp," commented Coach Kneifl.  "Her platform in serve receive is an acquired skill that we are always looking for.  Her serve is very effective and she is a true team player.  We fell like Boe will be able to make our gym better by training at multiple back row positions here at Wayne State."
Delaney Miller is a 5-10 outside hitter from Ankeny Centennial High School in Iowa where she played on three teams that reached the Iowa Class 4A state semi-finals.  This season she had 374 kills and 288 digs with a .273 hitting percentage and 47 aces helping her team to a 32-5 record.  Miller was a unanimous All-Central Iowa Metro League First Team selection this season and was First Team last year and Second Team as a sophomore.  Other honors includes three-time All-District, All-State Tournament Team in 2023 and 2024 and Class 5A All-State First Team as a junior.  Miller closed her high school career as the all-time service aces leader (136) and second in career kills with 1,094.
"Delaney is an explosive pin player that plays the game extremely hard," said Kneifl.  "Her overhead ball control and jumping ability will allow her to compete for playing time very early in her career.  She has played at an extremely high level at both high school and club volleyball and is a true competitor.  Delaney was recruited very heavily within our region and the NSIC and we are pumped that she chose WSC to be her home."
Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 15-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The Wildcats are 20-6 on the season and third place in the NSIC with a 12-4 league record.  Ranked 15th in this week's AVCA/TARAFLEX Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, Wayne State closed the NSIC regular season on the road this weekend at UMary Friday at 6 p.m. and Minot State Saturday in an 11 a.m. contest.
