PEMBERTON, SORENSEN REPRESENT WAYNE STATE ON NSIC ALL-CONFERENCE WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM

            Wayne State College midfielders Paige Pemberton and Alaina Sorensen have been voted to the 2024 Northern Sun Conference Women's Soccer All-Conference Team announced Thursday morning by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota.  Both players were named to the Second Team.
            Pemberton, a 5-6 junior from Lee's Summit, Mo. (Lee's Summit West HS), was voted All-NSIC Second Team for a straight season after recording five goals and four assists for 14 points this season despite missing four contests due to injury.  She had two game-winning goals and produced a team-high 31 shots while tied for second on the team in shots on goal with 14.  Pemberton scored goals in her first two games of the season at Southwest Minnesota State (9/20) and vs. Sioux Falls (9/22) that included the game-winner.  She was credited with one goal and one assist vs. MSU Moorhead (10/4) and at Minnesota Crookston (10/27) and also scored a goal that was the game-winner at UMary (11/3). 
            Sorensen, a 5-5 junior from Sioux Falls, S.D. (Lincoln HS), was an All-NSIC Second Team selection after leading the Wildcats in goals this season (7) and points (15).  She notched a team-best three game-winning goals and had 24 shots and a team-leading 17 shots on goal this season for the Wildcats.  Sorensen had two goals including the game-winner at MSU Moorhead (10/4) and had another two-goal contest at UMary (11/3).  She also recorded the game-winning goal in Wayne State's 1-0 win over Winona State November 7th that clinched the Wildcats' first trip to the NSIC Tournament since the 2019 season.
            Wayne State finished the 2024 campaign with records of 7-7-5 overall and 6-4-4 in the NSIC.  It was just the second trip to the NSIC Tournament for the Wildcats since the 2006 season and first since 2019.  Wayne State also had its best conference record since 2005 and it was the first .500 season for Wildcat soccer since 2016.
